French Louis XVI Style Ladies Writing Bureau Desk


Elegant French ladies bureau, writing table, or desk made in the grand Louis XVI taste. Features a roll top cylinder style case topped with a piece of Carrara marble. Made in the style of a "Bonheur de Jour" which was a small ladies desk popular in mid-18th century Paris. The top has two storage drawers and below the roll top opens to a slide out leather writing surface 14 inches deep. The bottom of the case is fitted with a large storage drawer and supported by bronze mounted elegant tapered legs ending with sabots. The desk is 25 inches deep with the pull out writing surface open. Beautiful bronze mounts and neoclassical swag trim decorate the case with a rich aged patina. From an estate in Bel Air, CA.

Condition: Fair, minor wear consistent with age and use. Excellent joinery and craftsmanship with age appropriate wear and cracks in wood. Missing trim on marble top and one drawer pull.
