English Oak Bench Settle With Art Nouveau Panels


Unique late 19th century English oak bench or settle from the late Victorian period featuring Art Nouveau embossed panels. This unique bench is a transitional piece as it has been decorated with early Art Nouveau designs of stylized floral motifs on the back and seats. Part of a set of two the other slightly longer. Full of character with an aged patina and old repairs as seen in photos. The decorative arts designs are reminiscent of the embossed bentwood furniture popularized by Thonet, Hoffmann, and Kohn's. The floral motifs strongly influenced by William Morris. From an estate in San Francisco, CA. Could also be used as banquettes at a dining table.

Condition: Distressed, minor wear consistent with age and use. Beautifully aged and distressed patina with old repairs as seen in photos. One back panel has been replaced long ago as seen in photos.
