Opulent 19th century English George III style writing table or desk decorated in the chinoiserie revival period of late 19th century to early 20th century Europe. The desk features a knee hole style case with a bowed front. The desk is supported by faux bamboo legs. The case is embellished with idyllic Asian scenes in parcel gilt over a dramatic black lacquer ground. The table is fronted by five small storage drawers with small patinated brass pulls. The entire desk has a desirable, aged distressed patina on the lacquer finish adding to its intrigue. The knee hole opening measures 24.5 inches from the floor to the shaped apron. The rear of the case is not decorated, only finished in black lacquer. From an estate in Napa Valley, CA.
