20th Century Southeast Asian Lacquered Coromandel Screen

Colorful 20th century coromandel screen from Southeast Asia. The four panel screen features raised panels painted with idyllic scenes in parcel gilt and color pigments. The top and bottom windows are decorated with mythical beasts having colorful borders. The back of the screen is just as impressive as the front with flora and fauna in the main scenes and scholars objects below over a dramatic Chinese red ground. Very unusual style with a lovely aged patina. Supported by straight legs ending with brass clad feet.
