19th Century Swedish Gustavian Style Painted Hall Tree Bench Seat


Charming 19th century Swedish painted hall tree bench seat with coat rack and mirrors fashioned in the style of a Gustavian long case Mora clock with an hourglass form. The top is decorated with sets of acanthus forms flanked by cartouches surmounted by an acanthus spray. Centered by an oval mirror with a thick beveled edge and four pairs of elephant motif coat rack hooks. The generous seat has flat arms on each side and a flip top storage drawer in the seat. The arms, legs, and apron have gracefully curved lines adding to the benches character and charm. Crafted from oak with an aged lacquer finish having craquelure patina.

Condition: Good, minor wear consistent with age and use. Excellent joinery and craftsmanship with age appropriate wear and fading. Painted finish has an aged, distressed patina as seen in photos.
