18th Century French Niche or Shrine Display Cabinet


Remarkable 18th century French niche or altar shrine display cabinet. Beautifully distressed finish with red and blue lacquer polychrome remnants and gilt. Opening measures 16 by 24 inches and 8 inches deep and is framed by two columns or pillars. The interior measures 18 by 28 inches. The niche was constructed with dovetail joints and has good joinery. There are 2 holes in the front bottom trim that go through the piece for mounting the niche on poles for carrying or display. Losses, chips, and wear on the antique polychrome lacquer finish. Does not include Madonna statue, only for scale and depth.
