An elegant matched pair of walnut fauteuil armchairs in the grand Louis XVI style featuring classical hardwood frames upholstered in a champagne-beige fabric. The chairs feature tall distinctive square backs with a centered floral crest on the top rail and carved notch faux-rope detailing along the upper molding. The scroll-ended arms feature upholstered padded manchettes matching the seat and back with incised detailing and rosette-adorned corner blocks. The carved walnut frames have a rich, aged finish in a deep mahogany tone. The legs are tapered and turned with carved ring details ending in small, classical Louis XVI-style toupie feet. The chairs have a fairly recent upholstery in a textured light neutral champagne beige woven fabric with a decorative braid gimp lining the edges. The chairs are sturdy and strong having excellent joinery and construction. Sold as a pair from an estate in San Fransisco, CA.
