Set of Sixteen 18th Century Bird Etchings by William Lewin


Rare set of sixteen hand-colored bird etchings by English naturalist and illustrator William Lewin (English 1747-1795). Published from 1790-1801 in London for "The Birds of Great Britain" by William Lewin. Each hand-colored print measures 10.5 inches by 8 inches. Set in painted wood frames behind protective plexiglass with white borders. Lewin's late 18th century birds of Great Britain were made in very low production numbers assisted by his three sons. Each etching is beautifully painted with fascinating detail. The frames feature a grey painted finish and create an interesting monochromatic palate.
