Stunning Italian commode or chest of drawers featuring dramatic baroque style giltwood carved finishes and Venetian painted cameo reliefs. The large case has exquisite craftsmanship with hand-painted theatrical ornamentation. The case is topped with a painted faux-marble top and fronted by 2 large storage drawers with bronzed foliate pulls. The sides have relief carved frames centered by a cherub on one side and a whimsical monkey on the opposite side. The front and side aprons have undulating serpentine forms. The case is lacquered in a powder blue tone with gilt accents throughout. The lacquer has an intentionally aged, faded style patina to mimic age. The case is supported by thick cabriole legs ending with black feet. The chest is heavy and sturdy with excellent joinery and craftsmanship. From an estate in San Francisco, CA.
