19th Century Italian Neoclassical Style Painted Secretary Bookcase


Whimsical 19th century Italian secretaire bookcase featuring a slant-front or drop front desk. The two-part case is painted in the neoclassical taste decorated with scrolling vines, laurel wreaths, urns, birds, lovely cameos, and swag. The finish has a beautifully aged and distressed patina full of character and charm adding to its overall aesthetic. The top portion has a two-door front with glass inset panels and arched tops opening to a two-shelf bookcase with adjustable shelves and corniced top. The dresser bottom opens to a slant front writing surface measuring 13 inches by 35 inches wide. The desk is fitted with drawers and cubbies. Below the desk is three large storage drawers with brass pulls and serpentine fronts. The case is supported with bracket feet. Amazing to view in person with intricate paintings and a gorgeous faded patina. Includes keys and original finials for top.
