Chinese Export Eight-Panel Gilt Lacquered Coromandel Screen


Fantastic Chinese export eight-panel Coromandel screen featuring a busy Chinese village. Black lacquer on wood core panels with Kuancai carved scenes filled with color pigments and gilt. The intricately carved screen depicts figures with animals in daily life amid pavillions. Bordered with a dragon motif each panel has a medallion with floral and foliate designs in gilt. The trees and borders have a delicate teal blue and green accents. The reverse side is decorated with a landscape scene featuring white cranes in a natural habitat. Supported by brass-clad feet and shaped aprons. The front of the screen is titled and signed in the upper right side. From an estate in Beverly Hills, CA. Made in Shanghai with maker's plaque.
