Set of Six Chinese Elm Yoke Back Official's Hat Chairs


Gorgeous set of six ming style Chinese carved Guanmaoyi yoke back chairs or official's hat chairs crafted from radiant elm hardwood. The chairs feature a raffia or grasscloth seat with a smooth lacquered gloss finish. Very strong and solid with excellent joinery and craftsmanship. The back splats and seats showcase the dramatic elm woodgrains and deep rich finish. One chair has a slightly smaller seat by one inch in width and depth that is difficult to see. The seat aprons have shaped spandrels and the legs are conjoined by stretchers with a foot rest in the front. From an estate in Beverly Hills, CA. Includes 6 new seat pads with tan and white ticking stripes as shown in photos.

Condition: Good, wear consistent with age and use. Beautifully crafted with strong solid joinery. One chair has a 1 inch smaller seat measuring 19.5 wide and 19 deep with single stretchered sides. Difficult to see a difference.
