A stunning and rare set of four "Block Island" cane rush wicker dining chairs designed by John Hutton for Donghia in the late 20th century. The set consists of all four armchairs with the seldom seen espresso finish. The chairs are beautifully crafted in the organic modern style with a distinctive 20th-century-inspired design by Jean-Michel Frank. The chairs feature a large, slightly pitched, mahogany high back frame, large squared arms, and gently splayed rear legs, all fully clad in woven wicker cane or rush in a tightly woven geometric checkered block pattern. The chairs are elegant and sophisticated with a rare warm espresso-toned finish and coastal organic modern style grounded in natural elements. The chairs are in exceptional condition as seen in photos. Sold as a set of four. New later added seat cushions in bone. Arm height is 26".
