Mah Jong Kenzo Missoni Sectional Sofa Hans Hopfer for Roche Bobois
$25,000.00
A rare and iconic 20th century 'Mah Jong' modular sectional sofa designed in 1971 by Hans Hopfer (Germany b. 1931) for Roche Bobois. The sofa is finished in an incredible blend of Kenzo Takada and Missoni-designed Japanese and Italian fabrics. Designed in France and hand-made in Italy, the set consists of 14 total pieces, (8 square seat cushions, 4 back cushions, 2 back corner cushions), offering infinite design possibilities in a chic and bohemian mosaic of color, tapestry, texture, and design. The upholstery consists of a patch-worked mix of large-scale cotton and corduroy florals in vibrant saturated reds, pinks, and oranges by Kenzo paired with striped, madras-style plaid, and solid corduroy and woven cotton panels in coral, fuchsia, blush, and chartreuse tones by Missoni. The beautiful patterns on the Takada fabrics were inspired by Japanese kimonos used in the Noh theater. Each authentic cushion is densely padded, button-tufted, and piped along the edges, entirely constructed and sewn by hand in a dedicated workshop in Italy with attached Roche Bobois tags. Measurements are taken as shown in image number 2. Each square cushion measures approximately 38" wide and deep. The set is in exceptional, well preserved condition as seen in photos with crisp, clean, and vibrant colored fabric having minor fading consistent with age and use. Sold as a set of 14 pieces. More photos available on request. The grand sofa is located in the US at our Northern California warehouse available for immediate delivery and installation.
