Spectacular late 20th century Japanese Showa period four panel byobu screen depicting blossoming spring prunus or plum trees with songbirds in flight. The screen features a dramatic metallic silver gilt background that radiates light. The screen is intricately painted with vibrant color pigments. The painting is set into an ebonized black lacquered wood frame with a chic light yellow silk brocade border. The birds have a stylized almost iridescent look on the vibrant green finish. Exceptional condition given age and use. Made in the Nihonga school style and signed by artist Shunrai with a seal that reads Shun. Beautifully painted with a Rimpa school Tarashikomi style on the prunus trees. From an estate in San Francisco, CA.
