A rare pair of exceptional cane and rattan living room suite designed by Barbara Barry for McGuire in San Francisco, CA. The set is comprised of an "Open Oval Caned Banquette" (MCU1000L) and a "Classic Curve Arm Chair" (MCM264), both finished in a rich dark espresso or tobacco-toned stain finish. The pair is hand-crafted by artisans from rattan, leather, and cane with a gracefully curved, tightly woven cane back insets and arched cutouts. Each is constructed in a traditional Greek Klismos form with sweeping rattan pole arms, along with legs, aprons, and stretchers crafted from straight rattan poles. The rattan is lashed together with leather rawhide strapping on the legs and stretchers. The graceful pair is completed with loose seat cushions in a soft off-white jacquard fabric with an embroidered cord-and-knot design. The pair is designed in a distinctly organic modern California Coastal style, and are well-suited for a variety of interiors. The bespoke pieces retain original McGuire plaques on bottoms. The joinery is solid with excellent craftsmanship in exceptional condition. The measurements listed are of the settee. The chair measures 25" wide, 24" deep, 34.5" tall, with a seat height of 18".
