19th C. French Country Pine Farmhouse Cupboard Shelf Étagère 7 Ft
$3,800.00
A rustic large 19th century pine cupboard shelf or étagère hand-crafted in France out of pine. The shelves are constructed with three tiers and twelve open cubby holes separated by tall pine dividers. The case appears to have been used on top of a dresser or cupboard in the past. Crafted on a large scale measuring over 7 feet wide. The vertical supports are cut with a hourglass-form profile that flares at the top and base, lending an elegant decorative element to the otherwise folksy and spartan shelves. The shelves are topped by a raised and enclosed gallery top enclosing a slatted plank surface. The case rests on its own dividers, which double as splayed feet for the shelves. The pine has an aged warm honey toned finish with traces of an old whitewash or chalky paint finish remaining in the recesses of the shaped dividers, and along with visible saw marks and hand-forged nails, giving the piece a desirable and authentic weathered patina. The piece is crafted in a rustic French Provincial and Country Farmhouse style. Its unique proportions make it well-suited for use as a low console, sideboard, bar-back, display shelves, storage piece, bookshelves, plate-rack, or on top of a dresser cupboard. The case would benefit from being mounted to a base for stability.
