16th Century Italian Renaissance Period Walnut Library Table


Rare late 16th century Renaissance period walnut library table or writing table from Umbria, Italy. Known as an "Asso di Coppe" table constructed in a trestle style with an exposed mortise and Tenon joinery on the shaped leg stretcher. The top of the table has a rectangular form of two boards above a three drawer case. The table is supported by vase shaped legs ending with shoe feet. Beautifully crafted with old repairs and lovely worn patina commensurate age and use.

Provenance: From a San Francisco estate purchased at Curtis studio auction S.F on April 25, 1926. Property of the Cattadori Collection, lot 1317. Ostensibly removed from the Palazzo Marchese Cauriana, Mantova Italy.

Condition: Distressed, minor wear consistent with age and use. Beautifully crafted with old repairs to top as seen in photos. Age appropriate wear with worn patina and visible losses.
