Opulent set of six late 19th century carved Italian dining armchairs crafted in the neoclassical taste. The chairs feature large painted square frames with round arms and legs ending with peg feet. The square backs have art nouveau style splats having gracefully curved tendril designs that conjoin in the middle. The generous seats have curved, round arms measuring 26.5 inches high. The seats are upholstered with a vintage Fortuny style upholstery fabric with a faded finish. The frames are decorated with subtle parcel gilt accents throughout and have a desirable distressed patina on the faded and weathered finish. This style and finish inspired many California designers such as Dennis and Leen, Rose Tarlow, and others. Sold as a set of six. From an estate in Bel Air, CA.

Condition: Distressed, wear consistent with age and use. Repaired: old repairs. Beautifully crafted with solid joinery and construction. The chairs have a distressed, faded patina on the lacquer finish as seen in photos vintage upholstery is faded, but shows well. Minor chips, scuffs, scratches, and old repairs as expected.
