Repurposed 19th C. French Butcher Block Work Table Kitchen Island 8 Ft
$18,000.00
A Monumental 19th century French "billot de boucher" or butcher block work table constructed from warm fruitwood in a rustic country French Provincial style. The rare long triple butcher block table has been repurposed into a grand kitchen island work table or console table. The original butcher block top has been removed and replaced with a later associated flat wood top having rich woodgrain patterns. The end result is a more functional, flat, and aesthetically pleasing alternative to a worn butcher block top. The island's long rectangular top measuring over 8 feet long. The case is fitted with three working frieze storage drawers having brass ring pulls, and richly carved architectural details. The fruitwood surface has a warm and time-softened surface in deep chestnut and amber tones with authentic patina and wear. Each of the three large drawers are divided by elegantly reeded pilasters. The upper apron is carved with a decorative molded cornice and reeded band edge, and the lower features dramatic scalloped lower carving and protruding dentil molding wood cutouts. The table stands on eight turned and fluted legs with rounded bulbous feet. The construction showcases incredible craftsmanship with gracefully curved drawers and sides. The large table is functional as a console, library table, center table, or kitchen island. The table is finished on all sides and would be an amazing candidate for a thick stone or marble work surface which would bring the height from a 30" inch dining height to a comfortable work height. The table height could also be raised with brass casters or wood lifts. The table has authentic age and wear with solid joinery and construction as seen in photos. Custom made for an estate in Malibu, California.
