Amazing Japanese Taisho period two-panel byobu screen depicting a colorful rooster and hen in a bamboo landscape. The large painting features vibrant ink and color natural pigments over a dramatic silver leaf square background. Painted in the Nihonga school style by Zako Kocho (Japanese b. 1898-?). Born in Hyogo, Kocho studied under Nishiyama Suisho and specialized in flower and bird paintings. Signed by the artist on the bottom left with a seal. Provenance: From an estate in San Francisco, CA. Purchased from Imari Antiques in Sausalito, CA. Mounted in a black lacquered frame.

Condition: Good, wear consistent with age and use. Beautifully crafted with an aged patina as seen in photos. Age appropriate wear with very light stains and minor foxing. Reverse side has paper losses.
