Japanese Showa Four-Panel Screen Wild Geese Autumn Landscape

$2,800.00

Gorgeous 20th century Japanese Showa period four-panel byōbu folding screen depicting a late autumn/early winter landscape with wild geese (kari) in flight and at rest along a tranquil waterscape. The landscape scene features a graceful willow tree having a light dusting of snow amid delicate marsh grasses. Beautifully hand-painted in the Nihonga school tradition. The painting features ink and natural mineral color pigments on paper with a dramatic luminous gold leaf square background. The composition highlights seasonal transition, negative space, and refined natural detail. Presented in a traditional black lacquered wood frame with silk brocade borders. Signed by artist with a seal lower right reading Koha-hitsu香葉筆 (koha=fragrant leaf, hitsu = brush of). Wild Geese are traditionally associated with the autumn season. From an estate in San Francisco, CA.
