The Fabulous Bunny Mellon

Bunny Mellon was a lover of gardens, books, art, and interiors. I think Bunny and I would have been fast friends. Bunny was 103 when she passed away at her Oak Spring Farm, in Upperville, Virginia in 2013. Never formally trained as an interior designer she had such a great eye for simple, layered, and relaxed interiors.

These diamond painted floors were one of her signature design choices.

She loved so many artists but Madeline Hewes is one of my favorites. She also loved abstract art by Rothko and Franz Kline. I love to see the evolution of her art collection.

Bunny Mellon's celebrated Oak Spring Garden Library comprises a collection of over 16,000 objects, including rare books, manuscripts, and works of art dating back to the 14th century.

Bunny was extravagant and under-stated and her aesthetic motto was “nothing should be noticed.” I have her new book "The Gardens of Bunny Mellon" on my amazon wish list and can't wait to add it to my collection.
