Trompe l'oeil | Deceive The Eyes

Trompe l'oeil | Deceive The Eyes

Trompe L'oeil pronounced "trohmp luh-yuh" means deceive the eye in French. It is an art technique that uses realistic imagery to create the optical illusion that the depicted objects exist in three dimensions. I have been on a trompe l'oeil kick lately after we have accumulated a few pieces and little did I know how obsessed I would become.
Trompe L'oeil actually exists through all mediums such as paint, sculpture, architecture, ceramics, and furniture design to name a few.
I'm sure you recognize this well-known mural commissioned for Bunny Mellon.

The Italian ceramic variety.

Incredible furniture examples.

This is our "newest" Trompe L'oeil piece, a draped library table.

I love the painted screen examples.
